Parent Education

Being a parent involves gathering all the information, tools and resources you can to handle any situation

What do you need in your toolbox?

Presentations

Every year, PEN creates a calendar of events that includes a number of presentations. Our speakers are carefully vetted and can be local, national, or international.  Our calendar changes throughout the year as we continue to add valuable presentations to meet your parenting needs. You can view an updated calendar under the events tab on our website. When you attend a presentation with  PEN, rest assured that you will get valuable information, engage in thoughtful conversation with other parents, and leave with resources to add to your toolbox!

Documentaries

Documentaries are a great way to learn about a specific topic area through the lens of real life stories. Many times, these films are especially applicable because they are created in response to a current need or epidemic. However, watching a documentary alone can sometimes leave you feeling afraid, confused, or unsure of what to do next.  PEN pairs our screenings with follow-up opportunities  with experts, panels or discussion groups. This allows you to have your questions answered and take your learning to a deeper level.

Workshops

PEN workshops are small, interactive sessions that allow you to gain an in-depth understanding of a particular topic area.  All workshops are facilitated by experts who are able to reflect on their vast knowledge and diverse experiences to create a safe context  for exploring some of the toughest parenting issues.  Within this setting, you will engage in discussions and demonstrations that give you opportunities to process and practice applying what you have learned.  After attending one of our workshops (~2-3 hrs), you will leave empowered to use your newly gained knowledge and skills in your own life.

Book Groups

Parenting book groups have been offered in the Boulder County since 2007, and are available to parents and caring adults of K-12 school age children. Within this context, PEN strives to support youth by engaging, educating, and empowering the most important influence in their lives, their parents.  The book group structure allows parents to come together in a caring environment and discuss a range of topics that support effective parenting. Specific content areas may include things like child & adolescent development, ADD/ADHD, drugs & alcohol use, bullying, and building resilience.  School teachers and staff may also express interest in creating a book group.
